Don't Be Afraid to Fail.  Be afraid NOT to try.

React to this quote.  What does it mean to you?

  1. Don’t be afraid to fail, be afraid NOT to try.
Wow. Those words are perfectly put together and convey a beautiful message. They say that failing won’t mean you are a different person, or that you’ll lose your status and placement in society if you make a mistake.(I used to be so afraid of making mistakes or failing. I got easily discouraged and sad when I got an “average” grade. I know, it might sound silly, but I knew I could do better. I know Kacie thinks that I am ridiculous and that there is nothing wrong with an “average” grade, but as I said, I knew I could do better.) Never be afraid to fall and scrape your knee, because it will heal. Make mistakes and learn! Have fun! Don’t let anything mess up your “funky flow”!
LE RANDOM RANT YOU’VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR!
Well, here we are again…the little dusty corners of my brain! If you don’t like me randomly posing questions in no order at all and then thinking/ typing random thoughts, well good luck! So, who thinks of music and how do they get the ideas of all of these weird lyrics? They must have reasons, like if their pet fish Harold dies after 3 days, they might write a sad song about death and fish. I have actually written a song, (I have never performed it) if you care to hear the song, please ask me in March, because I’m working on the notes and tempo. Yay! If cats could talk, what language would they speak in? Would it be specific to the language their owner speaks, or would it be just any language they could pick up on easily? Wow, the things that go on in my mind... Who invented a keyboard and why did they make the keys so noisy? As I’m typing, I hear *clack ca clack clack clack ca clack* and it’s really getting annoying... Speaking of annoying, what annoys you? Some of your pet peeves? Some of my pet peeves are when people scratch paper with their nails, when someone uses a cheap eraser on paper, nails on a chalk board, a squeaky marker, etc. All of those things give me Goosebumps. What song is stuck in your head at this moment? I have the song “Part of Your/That World” from The Little Mermaid playing over and over in the back of my mind. I know it’s getting bad because I’m singing on the bus without realizing it! That means that it’s gotten drilled so far into my head that for a few days, that song will be internalized into my mind, heart, and soul. YAY! Well I guess I forgot what I was going to type so…..yeah. *Clack ca clack ca clack* what do you guys think of the Genius Hour videos and ideas from LA? I think we should do that in this class. What would you work on? Like I said, I would probably make an animation about animation. Yes, I know I’m insane, but aren’t we all? I’m so excited for when we begin! YES! Sorry, I was just really excited that I reached over 530 words. I guess that’s all from me. PEACE.

  2. The quote “Don’t be afraid to fail Be afraid not to try” has a very powerful message to me. I think that it means that you can’t hold yourself back in life because you don’t think that it will work. You have to take risks because there is a chance that something great will come out of it. Most people have done something in life that they regret. Unfortunately, a lot of these things was because they wish they had done something that they didn’t. You are always told to live life to the fullest because you truly never know when your last day will be. Personally, I wouldn’t want to end life knowing I didn’t do something that I wish I’d done because I was afraid that I would fail. I don’t think anyone would want to do that. As humans, we are faced with a lot of decisions in life that we base our choices off of the outcome we assume will happen. When in reality, we have no idea if it will benefit us, or not. This is why we have to take risks.
An example of this quote would be if you are in a soccer game, and you don’t want to try to score because you’re afraid that you will miss. The way the world is now, lots of people are insecure, so you might be afraid that others will laugh at you if you miss. You just have to look at both sides of the situation, because you could score, and something incredible could happen.
Another example is if you don’t attempt to finish the monkey bars because you don’t want anyone to see you fall, if you do, that is. My advise is, if you want to try the monkey bars, do it. Most people are stronger than they think! If you fall, get right back up again and others will praise you for that because of how strong you are, mentally, too.
The second part of the quote says, “Be afraid not to try”. This can be a little confusing when you look at it, but I’ll explain what I think it means. Telling someone to be afraid not to try means that you shouldn’t be scared to fail, you should be scared that you didn’t even try. This all comes back to what I mentioned about regret, earlier. A lot of people regret things because they didn’t try to do something, not because they did try something. Personally, I would be disappointed in myself if I never tried cheerleading. Now, cheer is my life! I can’t even imagine what my life would be like without it. I have learned life lessons, hard work, dedication, and became part of the Iselin Giants family. All the girls there are like my sisters because of how close we are. When I fractured my arm last year, the Giants sent me an Edible Arrangements and teddy bear( they know me so well) signed from the “Iselin Giants Family”. I can’t imagine what my life would be like without cheer. That is what I think the quote “ Don’t be afraid to fail Be afraid not to try,” means to me.

  3. “Don't Be Afraid to Fail. Be afraid NOT to try.” What does this mean to me? Well, it is a very empowering quote that conveys an amazing message. In our generation, we look at an average grade,”C” , as a bad thing. Quoted from Mr. Leidner, “ A student could work hard and be a “C” average student. And there is nothing wrong with that.” But also, we think of a 76 as a “bad grade”. But that is still a “C”. A “C” couldn’t even be bad in comparison. Because , theoretically , no one is perfect. So you can’t have an accurate representation on good or bad, without it being biased. So in no way shape or form, YOU CAN”T FAIL. (theoretically) So there should be no reason to try. And knowing that, you should strive to be the best person you possibly can. First hand experience, my parents told me from a young age that I am competing with everyone else in the world. So I always had this in the back of my head that I need to be “smarter” than everyone else. But I have matured a bit and realized that I just have to do my best that I possibly can. I’m no calculator! I try my best and there is nothing wrong with that.
I can relate to this quote personally. I like soccer. And if you didn’t know, when there is a penalty inside of the goal box from the defending team, there is a penalty kick. It is when the player stands about 12 yards from the goalkeeper and takes a shot. They are super hard to block if you are a goalkeeper. So must goalkeepers just predict what way they will go and dive. So it is rarely blocked or missed in professional games. And if I were one of them taking that kick, I would be scared to miss it, knowing hundreds of thousands of people are watching at that very moment. And I wouldn’t want to lose it for my team. So, I would let someone else take it. I would be too afraid to do it. But I would still try my best.
Oh, and I tried my best at the spelling bee today! Top 10!

I don’t like cats. But I do like dogs. I have a dog. He is an English Bulldog. His name is Chunk. Do you have a dog or cat? All I can think of right now is that I made it to the next level of the spelling bee! I made it to the top 10 spellers today and I am really happy. What word did you mess up on or get right in you class spelling bee that you are proud of? I won on the word pugnacious. And I can’t stop thinking of my keyboard clacking after reading Kim’s blog. And trust me, mine CLICKS. Like REALLY, REALLY, REEEAAALLLLLYYYYY loud. Plus it lights up, so that is cool. I was just watching some youtube videos on this video game I play called Overwatch. They are supposed to be releasing a new character today. But I didn’t see it yet. Do you play any video games? What is your favorite video game? So this is 559 words. PEACE ✌

  4. Failure is a word that most people think of as bad.Words like LOSER, MISTAKES and FAILURE go together. There has been many times when I have been disappointed after failing something. Feeling like I have just proven I can not be as good as others. I am sure I am not the only one to feel this way.
After reading this quote and looking back at some of my mistakes maybe I should have been thinking about things in a different way. I can actually think of many times where failure changed things in my life, or another's life for the better. Some people use the opportunity of failing a test for an excuse to work harder. Once upon a time a girl named KC Danielle Turnbull tried out for a part in a musical production Gypsy, she was so nervous to get on stage in front of the judges. Her mother reminded her time and time again that she had a beautiful voice and could dance a little bit but to just try it. They got to the audition and KC saw 20 other girls that were much skinnier and danced a lot better than KC. She saw them, turned around to just go home and bumped right into her mother. Her mother reassured her that it was ok if she did not get the part but to just try and that everything was going to be ok. When it was her turn on stage to dance she messed up on the dance move that they taught her. She went off stage and was nervous to the point that she went to the bathroom got in a stall and just cried. When they called her name to sing she was VERY discouraged but did it anyway she could not just give up now. The judges loved it they clapped so much louder then when she messed up the dance moves, she sang so loud, proud and graceful the kids in the room next to the stage stopped talking, dropped everything and listened to her beautiful voice. She was done walked off the stage with her head down hoping no one heard her but that was very far from the truth. She walked into the room next door to the stage and all the girls were in awe of her, they all wanted her to sing again. Skip ahead a few hours and KC’s mom came and picked her up they got the letter in the mail that said if she got the part or not. KC did not but it did teach her to always try new things and to take an offer whenever one came up. Ok, there was a point to that story and yes it did actually happen. This quote really made me think about it. It showed me what to work on for my next audition, gave me more courage to try new things, and showed me that even though I didn’t get the part it was still worth trying.
Failure only shows I tried. Without failure I can never have success. Success wouldn’t feel so good without a few failures to know the difference.

  6. Don't Be Afraid to Fail.  Be afraid NOT to try.

That's a really empowering quote to me. I interpret it as saying that you need to give everything you do your all and not slack off. Not trying because you think you will "fail" or not do so great is what is really the worst thing to do. I would say that it says you trying and striving for a ten but not reaching as high as you wished is better then just having a negative out look and not trying because you have a gut feeling that you will not be able to do well. You might surprise yourself and end up at the top. If you quit and do not even try there is no way to ever know how well you can actually do. A 10 is a score for mystical non existent beings. No one is perfect and getting a perfect score isn't what you should shoot for. You should put your best effort in and if you get an 8 that is your best! Getting an 8 because you didn't try at all is a horrible score because if you would have tried you could have maybe hit a better score like a 9 but because you didn't try you will never know what you are capable of doing. Doing your best and doing bad on a scale of one to ten is good but not trying band failing is a horrible thing because you most likely have the power to do well stored inside of you. People would say that getting a C is a horrible grade when they try their best. It is almost like failing to them. If you try your hardest and get a C that is average and what they expect you to achieve. An A or B is above average and of course what we all strive for. Mr. Leidner said last week something along the lines of that a person could be a straight C student and it would be fine. He is saying that That person is trying their best and doing average. Not trying you might get a C while you know if you put more effort you could get a B or A.

    Randomness ahead. Brace yourself.
Lin Manuel Miranda: Emmy, Grammy and Tony winner. All he needed was an Oscar this Sunday for his song, How Far I'll Go, in the Disney movie, Moana. Sadly he didn't win his Oscar and was beat by City Of Stars from the movie La La Land staring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. If he was to have won with his song he would have achieved a MACPEGOT. Which is a Mac Arthur, Pulitzer, and the awards listed above. No one has achieved this and only 2 other people have got a PEGOT. One of which is Richard Rogers. Both of his Broadway shows played at a theatre named after him. He would also be the youngest person too have all the awards and complete it in the fastest time. Lin won a Pulitzer, Mac Arthur, Grammy, and multiple Tonys for his hit Broadway smash Hamilton: An American Musical. He won his Emmy for writing a song that was performed at the Tonys. He is a very talented man, no doubt. He is currently working on Mary Poppins Returns, in which he will be playing the character Jack.
Another thing that happened at the Oscars was that they announced the wrong movie for best motion picture. They announced La La Land but a minute or so later they knew that they hadn't won but Moonlight had instead. The announcer had stopped and stuttered at saying La La Land but showed it to the other announcer next to him and immediately announced the wrong show. They had been handed the card for best actress which was Emma Stone from La La Land so they just announced it.
